Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, exclusively reported on Monday via his official YouTube channel that former Tottenham Hotspur and Spain international defender Sergio Reguilón is about to join Inter Miami on a free transfer.

According to Romano's report, Reguilón's contract with Spurs had expired this summer. Despite the Europa League champions' attempts to renew his contract, both parties were unable to reach an agreement, and the player had left the club after his contract expired since August.

After leaving Spurs, Reguilón had received offers from several clubs over the past two months, but he had declined, preferring to wait for the one he considered the best fit.

Ultimately, he decided to join Inter Miami, joining players like Leo Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, Rodrigo De Paul, and Jordi Alba.

Reguilón has reached a preliminary agreement with the Major League Soccer (MLS) club through his agent.

Reguilón is expected to arrive in Miami soon to complete his medical and sign the contract with the club, owned by former Manchester United and England captain David Beckham.

Romano admitted he was pleasantly surprised by Reguilón's unexpected choice.

Sergio Reguilón, 28, was born in Madrid, Spain, on December 16, 1996. He is 1.78 meters tall and primarily plays as a left-wing back, but can also play as a left midfielder.

Reguilón joined Real Madrid's renowned La Fabrica youth academy at the age of eight. In August 2015, he was loaned-out to Unión Deportiva Logroñés, but he rarely played.

After being recalled early the following January, Reguilón began playing for Real Madrid's B team.

In August 2016, Reguilón joined UD Logroñés on loan again. This time, he successfully established himself as a key player in the club's first-team with his outstanding performances.

After returning from his loan spell the following summer, Reguilón became an undisputed key player for Real Madrid B over the next two years.

In August 2018, Reguilón was promoted to the first-team and completed his Real Madrid first-team debut two months later in a Champions League match against CSKA Moscow. He also won the Club World Cup with the club that season.

Between August 2022 and the first half of last year, Reguilón was loaned-out to Atlético Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford successively, but his performances were poor.

After returning from his loan spell last summer, Reguilon once again became a member of the Spurs first-team.

During his three-year spell at Spurs, Reguilón made 73 appearances across all competitions for the Premier League giants, scoring two goals and providing nine assists. During which he has helped the club win the Europa League once and reach the Carabao Cup final once.
