Sunderland announced on its official website on Tuesday that the club has signed Paraguay international defender Omar Alderete from Getafe.

According to Sunderland's official statement, Alderete has signed on a long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2029. He will also wear the number 15 jersey.

In addition, according to Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Black Cats paid Getafe a transfer fee of £10 million to sign Alderete.

After completing his signing procedures, Alderete, who was interviewed by the Sunderland official website for the first time, said: "I feel great and really happy to be joining this great team. I'm looking forward to my Premier League debut."

"This is a huge challenge for me. I know this is a club with a lot of history, and when they told me about the opportunity, I was very excited. It's always important to have the support of the fans, and I will give my all on the pitch."

About Omar Alderete

Alderete, 28, was born on December 26, 1996, in Asuncion, Paraguay. He is 1.88 meters tall and primarily plays as a center back, but can also play left back.

Alderete joined the youth academy at Cerro Porteño at a young age and completed his Cerro Porteño first-team debut in May 2016. During this time, he also had a loan spell at Gimnasia y Esgrima.

In July 2018, Alderete joined Atlético Huracán for €1.3 million.

The following July, Alderete joined Basel for €2 million, thus begin plying his trade in Europe ever since.

In October 2020, Alderete joined Hertha Berlin for €4 million.

The following July, Alderete was loaned-out to Valencia, during which he reached the Copa del Rey final with the club.

In the summer of 2022, Alderete joined Getafe on-loan with an option to buy, and his rights were officially bought out the following summer.

During his three-year spell at Getafe, Alderete made 99 appearances for the La Liga club in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
