Southampton's new head coach Will Steele has set a firm direction and long-term vision for the team after taking office. The coach left French Ligue 1 side Lens this summer and was subsequently appointed as Southampton's head coach. His current goal is to build a competitive team and create a positive atmosphere to help the Premier League return to St. Mary's Stadium.  

In his first interview after taking office, Will Steele elaborated on his game philosophy and the style of play he expects the team to show. He said: "I am full of energy and I always emphasize that I like to be proactive. I don't like to wait passively, nor do I like to respond passively. I hope the team can control the rhythm of the game, take the initiative to attack, and do our best to maintain the initiative."  

"What I did was not just to simply emphasize running or playing aggressively. Our goal is to control the initiative on the field as much as possible and create threats deep into the opponent's penalty area. This style of play is not only full of viewing, but also can inspire the enthusiasm of the players."  

"At the same time, I hope the fans can actively participate and give support. This atmosphere makes everyone know that our goal is to win, we are eager for more victories, and we hope to continue to perform strongly."  

"For me, the key is to stay positive and be open and honest with everyone so that everyone understands and receives the same message. I want to create an environment where everyone feels happy and engaged. I hope our team is full of energy, great people and employees, and we enjoy doing our best and winning as many games as possible."  

In addition to his work on the pitch, Will Steele also places great emphasis on creating a positive and results-oriented team culture behind the scenes. Will Steele said: "We certainly want everyone to be actively involved. We want people to recognize the efforts we have made to build this team, this club and its atmosphere."  

“To achieve this, we need to make our players feel comfortable and happy, encouraging them to smile and stay positive. But we also know that this is all about winning games, and we work hard to do our best. I still believe that despite the disappointment of the 2024-25 season, we have laid a solid foundation for the future. As long as we stick to the right strategy and create a good environment, there will be more glorious moments ahead.”  

Will Steele also said: "I think the club has great potential. I walked around the training ground and saw that the stadium and Staplewood training base are so big, there are so many things that can be done, and the environment is also very suitable for everyone."
