The 17th round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup ushered in another fierce battle. Brazil, at home, relied on goals from Esteban Willian, Paqueta and Guimarães to finally beat Chile 3-0.

In the 38th minute, Douglas Santos passed the ball into the penalty area, and Rafinha shot from the penalty area, but was blocked by Chilean goalkeeper Viguru. Then Estevan Willian scored with a back-heel shot from close range, helping Brazil take a 1-0 lead.
In the 45th minute, Chilean defender Maripan stepped on Wesley Franca while vying for the ball. The referee showed Maripan a red card for the foul, but the decision was changed to a yellow card after a VAR review. In first-half stoppage time, Chile was awarded a free kick. Paulo Diaz headed the ball, but it was blocked by Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson.
In the 55th minute of the second half, Guimarães passed the ball directly to the penalty area. Martinelli received the ball and turned to shoot low, but the ball was caught by Chilean goalkeeper Viguru.
In the 72nd minute, Luis Enrique dribbled the ball into the penalty area and Paqueta scored, helping Brazil continue to lead Chile 2-0. In the 76th minute, Chile made a mistake. Luis Enrique shot from the penalty area but the ball hit the post. Guimarães then made a follow-up shot to help Brazil extend its lead to 3-0.
Neither side was able to score in the following period, and Brazil eventually defeated Chile 3-0 at home.
