Napoli came from behind to defeat Genoa 2-1 on matchday 6 of the 2025/26 Serie A season at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

In the first half, young player Ekhator scored with a close-range backheel shot. In the second half, Zambo Anguissa scored with a header, and Højlund scored with a follow-up shot. Ultimately, Napoli came from behind to defeat Genoa 2-1. After this round of matches, having returned to winning ways, I Partenopei, temporarily lead the table with 15 points; Il Grifone are in 19th place with 2 points.

First Half

In the 11th minute, David Neres crossed into the box from the edge of the byline at the left wing. His pass was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Alessandro Marcandalli, After quickly following up and picking up the loose ball, Matteo Politano made a follow-up shot with his right foot from a very close distance in the box, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.

In the 33rd minute, Brooke Norton-Cuffy passes horizontally from the edge of the byline at the right side of the box. Jeff Ekhator quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, backheeled the ball into the lower center of the net from a very close distance in the box. Genoa broke the deadlock first to take a 0-1 lead!

At the end of the first half, Napoli trailed Genoa 0-1 going into the half-time break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 57th minute, Leonardo Spinazzola crossed into the box from the left wing. His pass was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by by Mikael Egill Ellertsson. After quickly following up, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa scored with a header in the box,  Napoli equalizes Genoa by the scoreline of 1-1!

8 minutes later, Neres passes horizontally from the edge of the byline at the right side of the box. His pass was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Marcandalli. Giovanni Di Lorenzo quickly followed up and after picking up the loose ball, volleyed with his right foot from the right side of the box, but his shot was saved by Nicola Leali.

In the 74th minute, Napoli was awarded a corner kick. Kevin De Bruyne took the corner by crossing it into the box. Di Lorenzo rose high and attempted with a header in the box, but unfortunately his effort hit the left side of the post and bounced off Napoli missed a golden opportunity to score again!

Shortly afterwards, Scott McTominay passed back from the center of the box. Zambo Anguissa quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed shot from the center of the box, but his shot was initially saved and cleared off not far away by Leali. After picking up the loose ball, Rasmus Højlund pushed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with a right-footed shot from the right side of the box, helping Napoli overtook Genoa with a 2-1 lead! This is already the Manchester United wonderkid's fourth goal since joining I Partenopei on-loan this summer!

When the final whistle is blown, Napoli came from behind to defeat Genoa 2-1.
