Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca announced on their official website on Friday that the country's international winger, Hakim Ziyech, who had formerly played for Ajax and Chelsea, has joined the club on a free transfer.
According to Wydad Casablanca's official statement, Ziyech has signed on a short-term two-year deal which runs until the summer of 2027.
In addition, according to Qatari media outlet beIN Sports, Ziyech's wages will be the highest in the Moroccan Botola Pro history, making him the league's biggest named star player ever.
About Hakim Ziyech
The 32-year-old Ziyech was born on March 19, 1993 in Dronten, the Netherlands. He is 1.8 meters tall and primarily plays as a right winger, but he can also play as an attacking midfielder or center midfielder. His cousin Oualid is also a professional footballer and also plays as a right winger.
Ziyech joined the Heerenveen youth academy at the age of 14 and completed his Heerenveen first-team debut in a Europa League qualifying match in August 2012.
In August 2014, Ziyech moved to Twente for €3.5 million.
During his 2-year stint at Twente, Ziyech began to be appreciated for his excellent scoring and assisting abilities.
On the deadline day of the summer transfer window in 2016, Ziyech joined Ajax for €11 million.
During his 4-year spell with de Godenzonen, Ziyech won the Eredivisie once, the KNVB Cup once, the Johan Cruyff Shield (Dutch Super Cup) once, and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League once with the club.
In February 2020, Ziyech joined Chelsea from Ajax for €44 million.
Although his performance has always been very good, Ziyech has never been able to establish himself in the Blues' first-team, this led him to be constantly embroiled in different transfer speculation during his latter years at the club.
In the summer of 2023, Ziyech was loaned-out to Galatasaray, and his ownership was bought-out by the club in the next summer.
However, despite winning two Turkish Süper Lig titles and one Turkish Super Cup with the club, Ziyech terminated his contract and left the club in January of this year due to a falling out with the club.
Shortly after leaving Galatasaray, Ziyech joined Qatari powerhouse Al Duhail on a free transfer.
During his time there, he helped the club reach the Qatar Cup final.
After leaving the club this summer, Ziyech received several offers from newly promoted La Liga teams, but he declined, choosing instead to wait for an offer that suited him.
During his three-year spell at the Blues, Ziyech made 107 appearances for the Premier League giants across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and assisting 13 times, during which he won the Champions League once, the UEFA Super Cup once and the FIFA Club World Cup once with the club, while also reaching 2 FA Cup finals and 1 League Cup final.
