Premier League to pay tributes to Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva before the start of all of the new season's opening matches..

The Athletic exclusively reported Thursday that the Premier League has decided to pay tributes to the late legendary Liverpool and Portugal international striker Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who tragically died in a car accident in Spain last month before the start of all of this weekend's 2025/26 season's opening matches.

According to the report, all players and staff will be required to wear black armbands during the opening matches, and a minute's silence will be observed at all stadiums.

Liverpool and Bournemouth players and veterans will each lay red wreaths in memory of Jota and Silva at Anfield before kick-off. The Reds' players will also wear jackets and jerseys emblazoned with the "Forever 20" badge on their chests.

Anfield will also display a special banner created by fans, and a memorial statue in Jota's honour will be erected later.

In addition, Chelsea has decided to donate all bonuses originally intended for players and coaching staff following the club's recent FIFA Club World Cup win to the widows, children, parents, and families of Jota and Silva.

The report also added that to prevent a recurrence of the incident in last weekend's Community Shield match where fans deliberately booed during the moment of silence for Jota and his brother, forcing such a solemn ceremony to be prematurely ended, the English Football Association has not ruled out severe punishment for those who intend to repeat this incident this weekend.

Jota, accompanied by his brother André Silva, also a professional footballer who played for Peñafiel, was driving to the dock, preparing to board a boat to return to Liverpool for pre-season training, when they were tragically killed in a car accident in Spain at 12:30 a.m. on July 4th. They were 28 and 25 years old, respectively.
