Angers officially announced on Wednesday the signing of Dutch midfielder Blanco van den Baumann on loan from Ajax for half a season. According to current media reports, the deal does not include a buy-out clause.
The official announcement also confirmed that Van den Baumann will wear the number 8 jersey in Angers.
The 30-year-old Van den Baumann started his career in the Ajax youth academy, and later played for PSV Eindhoven, Heerenveen, Willem II, De Graafschap, and Toulouse. The highlight of his career was leading Toulouse to their first-ever French Cup title in the 2022/23 season.
In July 2023, Van den Baumann returned to Ajax as a free agent. Hampered by a back injury, he has only made 56 appearances for Ajax so far, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists.
Following the completion of the loan, Ajax's sporting director, Marijn Boyk, stated: "Blanco is an exemplary professional player. Unfortunately, he has suffered many setbacks in recent seasons due to injuries, including a long-term back injury. He has always dealt with all issues with a highly professional attitude. Ligue 1 is where he achieved success, and hopefully he can regain his former form there. We wish him all the best."
