Werder Bremen's director of football Peter Niemeyer confirmed on Monday that Marvin Duksch's contract extension option has been triggered. His contract will automatically be extended by one year, valid until June 30, 2026.

"We are very happy that Marvin's contract has been extended," Niemeyer told Werder Bremen's DeichStube. "It shows that he plays a lot and will continue to be a very important player for us in the future."

The 31-year-old Marvin Duks was born in Dortmund's youth training and made his debut for the first team in the German Cup on August 3, 2013. He then played for Paderborn, Sao Paulo, Holstein Kiel, Düsseldorf, Hannover 96 and other teams, and transferred to Werder Bremen for 4 million euros in August 2021.

In the past three seasons, Duksch has played 98 times for Werder Bremen, scoring 45 goals and providing 29 assists, fully demonstrating his important value as a center forward. He is still performing well this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions so far, contributing 8 goals and 9 assists, helping the team temporarily rank ninth in the Bundesliga standings.

According to the terms of the contract, Duksch's contract extension will be automatically triggered if he plays 25 times in the Bundesliga this season and each game lasts more than 45 minutes. Niemeyer pointed out: "Reaching this appearance threshold is not a matter of course. When a player renews his contract due to outstanding performance, it is a win-win situation for both parties."

Therefore, it is highly likely that Duks will continue to stay at Werder Bremen next season. Niemeyer also said, "We have decided to include Marvin in the plan for next season."
