Freiburg announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has signed young Burkina Faso international forward Cyriaque Irié and young Germany U21s international forward Derry Scherhant from Troyes and Hertha Berlin respectively.

According to the news brought by Sky Sports Germany's resident renowned transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg, Freiburg paid a total of €5.5 million and €2 million to Troyes and Hertha Berlin respectively to sign Irié and Scherhant. At the request of the club, the media will not disclose the two players' contract lengths.

After completing his joining procedures, Irié, who was interviewed by the Bundesliga club's official website for the first time, said: "Joining Freiburg is of great benefit to my development. The club and head coach Julian Schuster want to integrate young players, which is very important to me."

"In the first conversation with the head coach, we discussed Freiburg's playing style, overall defense and the team's way of doing things. I know it will be difficult, but this is normal. I am still young and I will listen carefully to the advice of the top management."

About Cyriaque Irié

Cyriaque Irié, who is only 19 years old, was born on June 20, 2005 in Vavoua, Côte d'Ivoire. He is 1.84 meters tall and primarily plays as a right winger. He can also play as a left winger or center forward. He has dual nationality of Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

Irié played in the youth academies of a small local club in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso when he was a child. After graduation, he joined Dijon and completed his Dijon first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in August 2023.

During his time at Dijon, Irié attracted the attention of AC Milan, Red Bull Salzburg, Brentford and Leicester City among many other clubs with his outstanding performances.

In August 2024, Irié moved to Troyes for €3.5 million.

This season, Irié played 38 times for Ligue 2 club in all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 assists.

About Derry Scherhant

Derry Scherhant, who is only 22 years old, was born in Berlin, the capital of Germany, on November 10, 2002. He is 1.85 meters tall and primarily plays as a center forward, but can also play as a left winger or right winger.

Scherhant played for the youth academies of Viktoria Berlin, Tennis Borussia Berlin and Berliners when he was young. In 2020, he moved to the Hertha Berlin academy, started to play for its B team in the summer of the following year and completed his Hertha Berlin first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in August 2022.

During his three-year spell with Die Alte Dame, Scherhant played 78 times for the 2. Bundesliga club in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing 9 assists.
