Real Betis officially announced on Sunday that they have extended the contract of captain Isco. The new contract extends the original expiry date of 2027 by one year, until June 30, 2028.
Isco had been sidelined since early August due to a fractured fibula in his left leg, only officially returning to play on Sunday. The club's decision to announce the contract extension just before Isco's return demonstrates their trust and confidence in him.
Isco expressed his deep gratitude for the contract extension. In a video, he stated, "I am overjoyed to have renewed my contract and am happy to return to the pitch. I always look forward positively and hope for the best. I think the club has done an excellent job. We are building Betis step by step, making it stronger and stronger."
“I am very proud to be the team captain, and I always believe that the best is yet to come. That’s why I’m so happy to renew my contract and return to the court. Everyone has given me so much love and has filled me with ambition to train every day. I’m so happy to be back in a place that feels like home.”
“I have a deep affection for Betis. When most people no longer believed in me and the football world almost gave up on me, the club still trusted me. I will do my best on the field to repay the club and the fans for everything they have given me, continue to grow, win championships, and make Betis even greater. I am full of expectations when I think that I still have at least three years to fight for.”
The 33-year-old Isco came through Valencia's youth academy and made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey on November 11, 2010. He then played for Malaga, Real Madrid, and Sevilla, making a total of 454 appearances, contributing 71 goals and 71 assists. With Real Madrid, he won 5 Champions League titles, 4 Club World Cup titles, 3 La Liga titles, 3 UEFA Super Cup titles, 1 Copa del Rey title, and 3 Spanish Super Cup titles.
In July 2023, Isco joined Real Betis on a free transfer. To date, he has made 70 appearances for Betis, scoring 21 goals and providing 19 assists.
