◤Bundesliga◢ Alejandro Grimaldo scored two sublime free kicks as nine man Bayer Leverkusen beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1..


Bayer Leverkusen defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 at the BayArena on Friday on matchday 3 of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season.


In the first half, Grimaldo scored with a free kick and Schick converted a penalty. In the second half, Uzun netted a half-volley, Andrich was sent off for a challenge on Ritsu Doan, and Collins' long-range shot hit the crossbar. Before the end of the game, Fernández was sent off for a malicious challenge on Chaïbi while trying to close down the latter, and Grimaldo then scored with a free kick. Ultimately, nine-man Bayer Leverkusen defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1, achieving their first victory since Erik ten Hag's sacking. Following this round of matches, Die Werkself temporarily moved up to 7th place on the table with 4 points; while Die Adler are temporarily 3rd with 6 points.


First Half


In the 10th minute, Bayer Leverkusen was awarded a deadly free kick opportunity. Alejandro Grimaldo took the free kick from outside the penalty area and fired a left-footed shot into the top right corner of the net, beyond the reach of Robin Zetterer, Bayer Leverkusen broke the deadlock early to take a 1-0 lead!


7 minutes later, Malik Tillman passes horizontally from the midfield center circle. Nathan Tella quickly followed up, got the ball, dribbled and cuts into the right side of the box, before volleying with his left foot, but his shot was saved by Zetterer.


In the 19th minute, Leverkusen was awarded a free kick. Grimaldo took the corner by crossing the ball it into the box, Jarell Quansah rose high and attempted with a header from a very close distance in the box, however his effort was saved by Zetterer.


4 minutes later, Leverkusen launched a quick counterattack. Tella intercepted the ball and passes horizontally from the front. Patrik Schick quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before firing a left-footed long shot from outside the penalty aream but his shot flew high out of the pitch.


In the 31st minute, Tella passes horizontally from the front. Aleix García quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area, his shot was initially saved and cleared off not far away by Zetterer. Lucas Vázquez quickly followed up and upon picking up the loose ball, volleyed with his right foot from the right side of the box, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.


In the third minute of first-half stoppage time, Tella was brought down by Robin Koch while dribbling into the left side of the box. The referee immediately blew the whistle to award Leverkusen a penalty. Patrik Schick took the penalty and scored with his left foot, extending Leverkusen's lead to 2-0! This is the Czech international center forward's 85th goal for Bayer Leverkusen in all competitions!


At the end of the first half, Bayer Leverkusen temporarily led Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 going into the break.


Second Half


Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 52nd minute, Frankfurt was awarded a deadly corner kick opportunity. Ritsu Doan took the corner by crossing the ball it into the box, sparking a frenzy of activity. Can Uzun quickly followed up and upon picking up the loose ball, fired a left-footed half-volley from the center of the box into the top left corner of the net. Eintracht Frankfurt pulled a goal back at 2-1 lead. This was the third consecutive game in which the in-form Turkey international wonderkid had scored!


4 minutes later, Vázquez made through ball from the right wing. Tella quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, fired a right-footed shot against the outrushing Zetterer from the center of the box, his shot was saved by Zetterer before being cleared off the goal line by Koch. Bayer Leverkusen missed another golden opportunity to score again!


In the 57th minute, Robert Andrich tackled Ritsu Doan while trying to recover the possession from the left wing. The referee immediately blew his whistle and sent him off with a red card, Bayer Leverkusen were forced Leverkusen to finish the match with 10-men!


4 minutes later, Koch passes horizontally from near the midfield center circle. Nnamdi Collins stopped the ball and adjusted his angle before taking a long shot with his right foot from outside the penalty area. Unfortunately, the ball hit the crossbar and bounced off. Eintracht Frankfurt missed a golden opportunity to equalize Bayer Leverkusen!


In the 85th minute, Mark Flekken made a  long pass from the edge of his own penalty area. After successfully beating the offside trap, Axel Tape quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the right side of the box before volleying with his left foot, but his shot was saved by Zetterer.


In the second minute of injury time, Farès Chaïbi was maliciously tackled and brought down by Equi Fernández while carrying the ball at the left wing. The referee immediately blew his whistle and sent him off with a red card. Bayer Leverkusen were forced to finish the match with nine-men! This was Fernandez's debut!


6 minutes later, Leverkusen had a deadly free kick opportunity. Grimaldo took the free kick from outside the penalty area and shot directly with his left foot. The ball hit the right post and ricocheted into the bottom left corner of the net, scoring his second goal of the match, securing a 3-1 victory for Leverkusen! This is the Spain international left-wing back's 19th goal in all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen!


At the end of the match, nine-man Bayer Leverkusen defeated Eintracht Frankfurt by 3-1.
